As we celebrate 20 years of YouTube effectively 20 years of mass video—I feel fortunate to have spent 17 years of my career immersed in this space, from cross screen streaming technology to supply side ad monetization and adtech at large.

I still remember the time we livestreamed an eclipse (an eclipse!) on Dailymotion maybe around 2008 (?). Back then, pulling off a live stream to millions of viewers felt like an exploit—a technical feat that pushed the limits of what was possible. (We were young!! 😂)

Fast forward to today Saturday: I’m watching Lazio vs. Napoli on Paramount in HD on a large TV screen over WiFi, and I suddenly realize—no buffering, a flawless user experience, and well-balanced ad pressure. This isn’t just streaming anymore.

Video has become TV, and TV has become video.

Streaming platforms now deliver the seamless, high-quality experience once exclusive to traditional television, while TV has embraced the on-demand flexibility of digital video with its precision advertising. The lines have blurred—this is TV 2.0!!!

We’ve come a long, long way. 🚀

Btw good old Dailymotion will be 20 next month 🥂(launched on 3/15/2005)
